With the aim of building trust and promoting the protection of human rights in Nigeria, Lift for Citizens Development and Advancement, LICDA, in partnership with the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, has held a Citizens and Security Agents Dialogue and training.

In his opening remarks, the Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission, Tony Ojukwu, represented at the event by Dr. Kelechi Akubueze emphasized that human rights and security are not in conflict, noting that respect for human rights strengthens security as communities are more willing to cooperate when they trust law enforcement.
On her part, the Operations and Partnership Lead at LICDA, Mrs. Chukwu Gloria Chidiebere, said the dialogue was organized to help bridge the gap between citizens and security agencies.

Also speaking, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the National Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee, Otunba Bolaji Adigun, noted that dialogue remains key to resolving conflicts and addressing challenges within communities.
A representative of the Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Department, Odoh O. Fidelis, highlighted existing systems that allow members of the public to report misconduct by police officers, assuring that officers found guilty are sanctioned.

The event brought together representatives from several security agencies including the Nigerian Police Force, the Police Community Relations Committee, the Directorate of Road Traffic Services, DRTS, as well as members of the National Youth Service Corps.
