FCSC Celebrates 2026 Customer Service Week, Tasks Staff On Going Extra Mile

By Joel Gwom

The Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) has called on its staff to embrace a culture of excellence, professionalism and customer-focused service delivery as it marks the 2026 Customer Service Week.

This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by the Head, Press and Public Relations of the Commission, Ibraheem Zakariyya,

According to the statement, the Commission, while commemorating the week themed “Extra Mile,” emphasised that effective and efficient service delivery remains fundamental to organisational success and public confidence in government institutions.

Declaring the event open at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, the Director Overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary (DOOPS), Dahiru Mohammed Lawal, urged staff to demonstrate greater commitment to their responsibilities by consistently delivering timely, efficient and quality services to civil servants, Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), and members of the public.

Lawal described service delivery as a responsibility that must not be compromised, stressing that the success of every organisation depends largely on the quality of services it provides.

He encouraged staff to discharge their duties with passion, integrity, discipline and a strong sense of responsibility, noting that going the extra mile is essential to improving service standards and fulfilling the Commission’s mandate.

The DOOPS further urged staff to recognise that the value of quality service extends beyond immediate recognition or reward, as every positive interaction contributes to public trust and institutional reputation.

In his remarks, Team Leader, Dr. Ben Olofu, said Customer Service Week provides an opportunity to celebrate and appreciate employees who consistently exceed expectations in serving customers.

Dr. Olofu noted that the 2026 theme, “Extra Mile,” reinforces the importance of anticipating customers’ needs, providing additional guidance, resolving complaints promptly and demonstrating willingness to go beyond routine responsibilities.

He also highlighted the importance of teamwork, innovation and collaboration across departments in achieving service excellence, stressing that effective customer service is not the responsibility of frontline officers alone but a collective obligation.

The celebration, the statement added, underscored the FCSC leadership’s commitment to strengthening a service culture that prioritises professionalism, responsiveness, accountability and stakeholder satisfaction.

It noted that small but consistent acts of excellence — including getting appointment, promotion and disciplinary decisions right the first time — can significantly improve service delivery and reinforce public confidence in the Commission.

The event concluded with a call on all staff to make going the extra mile a daily professional standard rather than a once-a-year celebration, as the Commission continues to pursue its mandate of promoting an efficient, effective and merit-driven Federal Civil Service.
