VCN BEGINS THREE-DAY PROCUREMENT TRAINING FOR MANAGEMENT STAFF

The Veterinary Council of Nigeria, VCN, has started a three-day training programme for its management staff on public procurement processes and procedures.
The Council says the training is part of efforts to strengthen institutional capacity and ensure compliance with procurement regulations.
Tagged “Understanding the Public Procurement Process and Procedure,” the programme is designed to improve participants’ knowledge of procurement laws, procedures, and best practices in public service administration.

A statement signed by Madina Gertrude, Head of Information and Public Relations, made the disclosure on Monday. Declaring the training open, the Acting Registrar, Dr. Fadipe Oladotun, said it was organised to build staff capacity for effective service delivery. He noted that despite VCN not being on the federal budget for two years, the Council remains committed to staff development. He urged participants to apply the knowledge gained to promote transparency, accountability, and global best practices.

In his presentation, Engr. Ojougboh Nelson, Head of Research, Training and Strategic Planning at the Bureau of Public Procurement, BPP, stressed that Chief Accounting Officers must understand the Public Procurement Act and ensure strict compliance. He outlined BPP’s mandate to regulate procurement for value for money, transparency, and accountability.
Engr. Ojougboh also took participants through procurement capacity building, stakeholder relations, implementation processes, as well as complaints and administrative review procedures under the Act. Organisers say the sessions are aimed at improving efficiency in the Council’s procurement activities.

The Council expects the three-day clinic to enhance management staff competence, strengthen compliance with procurement rules, and improve overall service delivery at VCN.
